Well Looky Here, Gilbert

Bluebird Nest!

We've seen lots of bluebirds - well, 3 - flying around our back yard lately.  My DH noticed they seem particularly fond of suet.  The birds have been checking out both boxes, one which had two broods last year, and the new one shown above.

I checked them both yesterday and found this nest - already about 4" deep.  The old box remains unoccupied for now.

I'm not sure where I heard this, nor do I remember the exact facts, but I've heard that Blue Bird houses have to be spaced out a specific distance or they won't use them both... not sure, but if they don't use the old one, you might want to research that. But Woo hoo nesting Blue Birds means spring is here!

Hi Deb - We joined the NC Bluebird Society so we could get a badly needed education. I'll have to look through their newsletters, but you're probably right about the distance. We're hoping for another family anyway.
